Calif. agents track pot parcel to Bengal's home

Calif. agents track pot parcel to Bengal's home

For authorities tracking a marijuana shipment from California, the trail ended unexpectedly at the home of a Cincinnati Bengals player in suburban northern Kentucky where police say they found more drugs.

No arrests have been made. Police were still investigating the case Thursday that has entangled Bengals wide receiver Jerome Simpson, a North Carolina native in his fourth NFL season. A package containing 2 pounds of marijuana was tracked to Simpson's home.

The case is being investigated by police at the Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport, along with local authorities.

A Bengals spokesman said the club was aware of the reports but had no comment. Calls to Simpson's agent went unreturned. Simpson was excused from practice on Thursday to deal with the matter. It was unclear whether he would be available for a game Sunday against San Francisco at Paul Brown Stadium.

Simpson was at his home along with girlfriend and teammate Anthony Collins on Tuesday when the woman accepted the package, said Michelle Gregory, a spokeswoman with the California Department of Justice.

Collins' agent didn't return a call seeking comment. Collins practiced on Thursday but didn't make himself available to reporters for comment. Coach Marvin Lewis said Collins wasn't a focus of the investigation,Nfl bears jersreys cheap though he declined further comment.

The package originated in Eureka, Calif., part of the so-called Emerald Triangle, the state's vaunted pot-growing region, and was discovered by a drug-sniffing dog in Sacramento, Gregory said. The address label bore the name of Jason Snider, but Gregory said it's not unusual for people to use false names when sending illegal drugs through the mail.

A search of Simpson's home also turned up 6 more pounds of marijuana, smoking pipes and scales, authorities said.Human hair Full lace wigs

"We don't believe it (the package) was for personal use," Gregory said. "We believe there's some sort of distribution or sales out of his home."

The Bengals had 10 players arrested during a 10-month span from April 2006 to June 2007. Receiver Chris Henry was the biggest repeat offender, one of the factors in NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell cracking down on player misconduct.

The Bengals created a stir when they decided to bring Henry back after his fifth arrest. He later died in a fall from his fiancee's truck.

Two players got arrested last summer, putting the Bengals back in the spotlight.

Last July, cornerback Adam "Pacman" Jones was arrested in downtown Cincinnati and charged with misdemeanor disorderly conduct and resisting arrest.Nfl womens jerseys He pleaded not guilty and is scheduled for trial in November. Jones is currently on an injury list as he recovers from offseason neck surgery.

Running back Cedric Benson spent five days in a Texas jail before the start of the season, digital video recorders completing his sentence for two misdemeanor assault cases.

Law enforcement agents are trying to determine who sent the package to Simpson's home. There was no return label.

Gregory said if Kentucky authorities do not charge Simpson or others, California may consider that possibility.

Windows 8 Also Has Tools for Power Users

Windows 8 Also Has Tools for Power Users

Microsoft has spent so much time at the BUILD conference this week talking about how Windows 8 will operate like a tablet OS that you might feel left out if you plan to continue working on a desktop or laptop. But whether you’re an IT manager, PC enthusiast, or professional just trying to get some work done, Windows 8 will have enough new features to make it worth your interest.

First, there’s performance. Microsoft promises that Windows 8 will run on every machine Windows 7 runs on, but if our early demos are any indication, it should actually run better. A clean boot of Windows 8 should use less RAM and CPU resources than Windows 7 currently does. The new Metro-style, full-screen, immersive applications suspend themselves when you can’t see them, consuming no CPU cycles (though they still occupy some RAM).juicy sunglasses wholesale

Boot-up times are fantastic. The increased speed is most noticeable on new systems with the optimized UEFI (Unified Extensible Firmware Interface); but even if you have an existing system with no special hardware, you should see a massive reduction in the time it takes to go from pressing the power button to getting up and running.

Though the Start Screen is made for touch, it works just fine for keyboard-and-mouse users whose PCs lack touchscreens. Just start typing, and it instantly brings up the search interface, looking for applications as you type. The Windows key brings you back to the Start Screen from wherever you are, and keyboard shortcuts abound. News analysis Netanyahu's housing plan not to satisfy critics

News analysis Netanyahu's housing plan not to satisfy critics

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu presented Tuesday his plan to deal with the housing crisis as demonstrations throughout the country continued for a second straight week.

Netanyahu, who has been criticized by the opposition and within his own party for his handling of the situation, convened a special press conference to outline emergency measures aimed to alleviate the housing distress.

Under the proposed plan, the state will subsidize a 50-percent discount on government-controlled lands designated for the construction of low-cost housing projects for both purchase and renting. Other measures include lowering public transportation fares and persuading commercial real estate owners to convert their properties into residences via incentives.

Netanyahu estimated that some 50,000 new housing units would become available within 18 months, 10,000 of which are dormitories for university and college students.

Rent control is uncommon in Israel as most people lease their apartments from private landlords without any official regulation on prices.

Analysts said Netanyahu's plan would alleviate the housing crisis more or less, but only in three to five years, which wouldn 't be enough to satisfy the protesters. However, some new legislation the demonstrators demand may not solve the problem at all due to the lack of implementation.
